Boy, video game developers are having a lot of problems saving their big reveals for E3 this year. This time, the reveal is coming from Microsoft and 343 Industries themselves: Halo 5: Guardians is coming next year.
This isn’t exactly the biggest surprise, as during their press release at last year’s E3, Microsoft released a small cutscene that all but announced that a new Halo game was in the works.i Now that the game is coming out for certain, the speculation on what exactly the game will entail can begin.
In a press release from Microsoft, 343 Industries’ General Manager Bonnie Ross said: “Halo 5: Guardians” is a bigger effort than “Halo 4.” That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what’s now a brand new and more powerful engine. Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we’ve invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen.” Between this news and the Halo TV series coming next year, the Halo franchise is going to make a huge impact on the Xbox’s future.
Microsoft is finally pulling out the big guns on it’s in-house IPs. With news of Xbox One sales falling behind the PS4, Microsoft is beginning to make some big moves toward catching up. Doubtless, we’ll see more information come Microsoft’s E3 press conference on June 9th.
